What makes Rannotsav Unique?
The entire setup of tents is at Dhordo in the Banni region. From there, the tourists will be taken in camel cart to the endless expanse of the salt desert and seasonal marshland situated between the Gulf of Kutch and Indus River.
In the olden times, this region was concealed under the shallow waters of Arabian Sea. It got geologically uplifted and left behind a huge lake that becomes a desert in the dry season. As the tourists voyage through the salt desert, the awesomeness of the white plain land will mesmerize you. It is an experience to cherish throughout the life to see the play of colors as the sun sets in the crimson red sky of winter season below the white horizon.
You can experience a myriad of activities at the festival, namely Golf Cart, ATV Ride, Camel Cart Excursion, Paramotoring, Meditaiton, and Yoga in addition to the exciting camel cart ride midst the desert. Folk music and dance performances are other highlights of the desert festival.
Places to Visit around Dhordo
A remarkable opportunity would be to visit the border outposts in the desert where you can have a glimpse of the untiring efforts of the BSF. Make sure you take prior permission from the concerned authority to visit the region.
Several tours operate for local sightseeing purposes that include Kala Dungar, Narayan Sarovar, Koteshwar Mahadev and Mata no Madh.
The drive to Kala Dungar (Black Hills) is absolutely thrilling with the winding roads that give you a panoramic view of the vast salt field. There is a Dattatray Temple atop the hill and it is one of the highest points in Kutch. You can undertake a trek in the surrounding area where you are accompanied by the chirps of bulbuls, sparrows, and many other birds. It is the most talked about sight at Kala Dungar that jackals come to relish the temple offers.
Narayan Sarovar is the sacred lake of Kutch. The shore temple of Koteshwar is another amazing tourist destination to visit while you are at Rannotsav. Mata no Madh is a temple dedicated to Ashapura Mata with a lot of popularity for newlywed couples.
You can even visit the tranquil Gurudwara at Lakhpat where you can get to see Pakistan border from the top of Lakhpat Fort ruins and Sufi shrines.
The surrounding villages give you a glimpse of the mud-plastered round houses (bhungas) that are beautifully adorned with hand-made paintings and mirror inlays.
Shopper’s Paradise
You can buy wood carving products, leather crafts and pottery items from the nearby villages. Bhuj is popular for the embroidered attires. Khavda is renowned for lovely weaves. You can even make a visit to Bhujodi if you love shopping.

There are more than 350 tents dotting the salt desert. According to your budget and preferences, you can choose the tent with varying facilities and amenities. Book well in advance as the tents are bound to get filled up really fast.
How to Reach
Bhuj is well connected to the major cities of India by train. Dhordo is 80 kilometers from there. If you are planning to reach by flight, Ahmedabad is the nearest destination. Dhordo is around 400 kilometers from there. You can book a cab from Ahmedabad or Bhuj to reach the camp site.
